One of my PIDP 3250 classmates shared the following video in which a Registered Nurse shares their frank opinion on whether critical thinking is a skill that can be taught.
I really enjoyed this video because I was always a firm believer that critical thinking is a skill that can be taught and this video challenged my thinking and made me re-evaluate my stance, hence I engaged in critical thinking.
I still believe that the skills needed to engage in critical thinking can be taught, however, as stated in the video you can not make another person care or engage in action vs. inaction. Even the best instructors cannot make their students become critical thinkers. We, as instructors, can teach our students the skills of analyzing and synthesizing information, however, we cannot control what they do with the information after that.
What is your stance on whether or not critical thinking can be taught? Did the above video provoke you to engage in critical thinking about your stance, why or why not?
